Add-Ons on the Grooming Invoice: Teeth Brushing, Nail Grinding, De-Shed and Every Extra

Add-ons are where a lot of mobile grooming money quietly goes missing. The groomer brushes the teeth, grinds the nails, adds a bandana, and then the invoice goes out with just the full groom on it. Nobody meant to give anything away. The extras simply never made it from the grooming table to the bill.

Add-Ons Belong on the Job

The base of every grooming invoice is the pets themselves, as covered in One Line per Pet: Building a Mobile Grooming Invoice the Customer Understands. Add-ons sit on top of that.

In PetGroomBossPro, add-ons are ticked on the job. You set up whatever extras you offer, and the common ones look like this: De-Shed Treatment, Teeth Brushing, Nail Grinding, Flea & Tick Bath, De-Matting, Ear Cleaning, Anal Glands, Paw Balm, Blueberry Facial and Bow / Bandana. Because they are on the job, they show up on the groomer app next to the pets, and they flow onto the invoice when the groomer taps Complete.

The point is that the add-on is recorded where the work is planned, not remembered later.

Your Prices, Your List

Every shop prices extras differently, so the add-on list and the prices are yours. With example numbers, a groomer might charge $15 for teeth brushing, $20 for a nail grind, $25 for a de-shed treatment and $5 for a bandana. Others fold some of those into the full groom and only charge for the bigger ones. Either approach works. The software just needs to know which ones carry a price.

If you use the online booking page, the same add-on prices show to new customers when they pick their services, so the price they see when booking matches the line they see on the invoice.

Repeat Clients Keep Their Add-Ons

Most grooming customers want the same thing every visit. The doodle always gets teeth brushing. The older lab always gets paw balm. Because the next visit at a home fills in from the last one, the add-ons ticked on this visit are ready on the next one too. The groomer sees them on the card in the groomer app, does them, and they bill without anyone setting them up again.

If a customer wants to drop an add-on, change it on the job, and future visits follow. If they want to try something new, add it for this visit. It is a small detail, but it stops the quiet drift where an extra gets done for free for six months because nobody updated the paperwork.

Add-Ons the Groomer Decides On Site

Some extras are not planned. A coat is more matted than last time and needs de-matting. A dog shows up with fleas and needs a flea & tick bath. These are the add-ons most likely to be missed on the bill, because they were never on the plan.

The groomer's job is to note it. The grooming checklist in the groomer app has a note for the customer for each pet (“matting behind the ears is coming back”), and the office can see the job. A clear house rule helps: when an unplanned add-on is done, it goes on the job before Complete is tapped, so the invoice and the card charge are right the first time. The longer version of this is in When the Groom Changes on Site: Invoicing Extra De-Matting and Skipped Add-Ons.

It also helps to tell the customer before you add a charge they did not expect. A quick text from the office saying the coat needed extra de-matting today goes a long way.

Why Itemizing Extras Helps Sales

An add-on that appears on the invoice as its own line is also an add-on the customer notices. A customer who sees “Teeth Brushing — $15” knows it exists. A customer who sees a lump total does not.

That works both ways. Customers who like an add-on will keep it. Customers who did not want it will say so, which is better than paying for it quietly and resenting it. Either way, the itemized invoice gives the customer a clear picture and gives you a clear record.

The Groomer Taps Complete, the Extras Bill

At the end of the visit the groomer finishes the checklist for each pet, including the add-ons, and taps Complete. The invoice is created with a line for each pet's groom and each add-on, sales tax is added where it applies, and the card on file can be charged before the van leaves. The office can print a Grooming Report for the customer showing what was done on each pet.

Nobody has to remember the extras at 9pm. They were on the job, so they are on the bill. To see the rest of the billing tools that work with add-ons, from card on file to the tips report, visit the pet grooming invoicing software page.
