The Customer Live Map: Showing Pet Owners Where the Grooming Van Is
“Is the groomer still coming today?” is a fair question from a pet owner who has been home since morning with a dog who has no idea what is about to happen. The customer live map answers it before they have to ask. In the PetGroomBossPro customer app, owners see today's route and exactly where they are in it.
What the Customer Sees
The office has its own map of every van, explained in Van GPS on the Office Map: Dispatching Mobile Groomers During the Day. The customer live map is a friendlier, narrower version for the pet owner.
On grooming day, the customer opens the app and sees the route on a map with a plain line that says where they stand, something like: “You're stop 4 of 6 — the groomer is 2 stops away.” As the groomer finishes each visit, the count goes down. The owner can glance at it between meetings or before deciding whether there is time to walk to the mailbox.
Why Mobile Grooming Customers Like It
A mobile grooming customer usually has to be ready at the right moment. The cat has to be found and kept in one room. The dog has to be back from the morning walk. The car may need to move so the van can park close to the outlet. A set appointment time tells them roughly when, but grooms vary, and a long groom before theirs can push things back.
The live map turns “roughly when” into “right now, two stops away.” That is the information owners actually need to get the pet ready without waiting by the window all morning.
Privacy for Other Customers
Owners care about their own visit, not the addresses of the other people on the route. The live map shows a customer their place in line and how many stops are ahead, which is what they need, without turning the route into a list of other customers' homes. Each customer sees their own visit in the context of the day, and nothing more personal than that.
The Map and the Alerts
The live map works alongside the alerts each customer chooses in the same app: night before, when they're next, and when the groomer arrives. Some owners never open the map and rely on the texts. Others like to watch the van get closer. Both are fine.
The texts are covered in On-the-Way and Arrived Texts From the Grooming Van. Together with the map, they mean the owner is rarely caught off guard by the van pulling up.
Everything Else in the Customer App
The live map is the feature customers notice on grooming day, but the customer app does more than that between visits:
- Request service — ask for a visit, an extra nail trim, or a new pet added to the household.
- Sign up for services and see your pricing.
- Update the card on file without calling the office.
- See invoices and pay them online.
- Leave a tip on a paid invoice — $10, $20, $30 or another amount.
- Rate the visit and refer a friend.
- Choose alerts — night before, when they're next, when the groomer arrives.
Service requests from the app wait on the No Day tab of Pending Jobs until the office places them on a day, so they never land on a van's route without someone checking it fits.
Fewer “Where Are You?” Calls
Every call or text asking when the groomer will arrive takes someone away from something else. For a one-van owner, that someone is usually the groomer, with a dog on the table. The live map lets customers answer the question themselves, which means fewer interruptions in the middle of a groom and fewer missed calls that turn into worried follow-up texts.
It also helps on days that run late. If a groom before theirs runs long, a customer watching the map can see the van has not moved yet, and is less likely to assume they have been forgotten.
Getting Customers Onto the App
The map only helps customers who use it. A few easy ways to get them there:
- Mention it when you confirm a new customer's first visit.
- Include it in your welcome message along with the alerts they can choose.
- Point to it when a customer texts to ask where the van is: “You can always see where I am in the app.”
The customer app runs on their phone in the browser, so there is nothing to find in an app store. Customers who start using it tend to keep using it, because it is the quickest way to see the van, pay an invoice or ask for a visit.
For how the live map fits with routing, reminders, Pending Jobs and van GPS, see the mobile grooming scheduling software page.
