Neighborhood Days: Grouping Mobile Grooming Appointments by Area

The biggest scheduling win for a mobile groomer is not a clever route. It is a book where each day already sits in one part of town. When Tuesday is the north side and Thursday is the east side, almost any order is a short drive. That is the idea behind neighborhood days, and it is something you build on purpose, one booking at a time.

Why Grouping Beats Routing

Repeat clients in fixed slots, covered in Repeat Grooming Appointments on the Schedule: Every 4, 6 or 8 Weeks in a Fixed Slot, are what make neighborhood days possible. Once a client is booked on the right day, the slot holds.

Auto-routing orders the stops on a day. It cannot make a scattered day short. If a van has one appointment in each corner of the service area, Closest First and Furthest First will both produce a long drive. Grouping the book by area attacks the problem at the source: the stops on each day are already close together before routing starts.

Picking Your Areas

Start by looking at where your clients are. If your book is already in PetGroomBossPro, every address is on the map. A CSV import places imported addresses on the map automatically, so even a long list from a spreadsheet becomes pins you can look at.

Look for natural clusters: a group of neighborhoods on one side of a highway, a town next to yours, the area around your shop. Most groomers end up with a handful of areas, each matched to a day or two of the week. There is no right number; it depends on your area, your vans and how many days you work.

Placing New Requests by Area

Neighborhood days are built mostly by how you place new customers. When a request lands on the No Day tab of Pending Jobs, look at its pin against the visits already planned. If it is near your Tuesday cluster, offer a Tuesday. A customer who prefers Fridays might still take a Tuesday when you explain that is the day you are on their street.

The Book Now page asks for a preferred day and a time of day. Those are preferences, not bookings, so the office can steer the customer toward the area day when confirming. How the No Day tab works is covered in The No Day Tab: Where New Grooming Requests Wait for a Slot.

Moving Existing Clients Toward Their Area Day

An existing book is usually not grouped, because clients were booked whenever they called. You do not have to fix it all at once. A gentle approach:

Over a few months, each day fills up with clients from its area, and the drives between stops get shorter.

Neighborhood Days With Two Vans

With two vans, you have a choice. Each van can have its own areas, so Van 1 is always the north and west and Van 2 the south and east. Or both vans can share area days, each covering part of the same area on the same day. Either way, setting the van on each repeat client keeps the pattern steady.

The Pending Jobs map shows both vans' planned visits at once, which helps you see where each van's areas sit and where a new request fits best.

Area Days and Appointment Times

Grouping by area does not mean ignoring times. The clients on an area day still have set appointment times, and some will still need early or late slots. Within an area day, auto-route the van and then move the fixed-time stops into place by hand. Because all the stops are near each other, moving one up or down the list costs little extra driving.

Telling Customers About Their Day

Customers usually like knowing their groomer has a regular day in their neighborhood. “We're on your street every Tuesday” makes the schedule feel dependable. Neighbors notice too, and a van that is in the same area every week is easy to refer to a friend down the road. The customer app lets customers refer friends, and a referral from the same street is an easy one to book on the same day.
