Setting Size Prices for Toy, Small, Medium, Large and Giant Dogs on Your Booking Page
Size is the biggest single thing that moves a grooming price. A Yorkie and a Bernese Mountain Dog might both be booked for a full groom, but nobody expects them to cost the same. On the PetGroomBossPro booking page, size is handled with a price add-on per size, applied to each pet the customer adds.
How Size Fits Into the Price
The full formula is in How the Instant Price Works on a Grooming Booking Page: Service Base, Size Add-On and Minimum. In short, each pet is priced as the service base plus the add-on for its size, and add-ons, discounts and your minimum come after that.
There are five sizes, the same ones used on every pet record in PetGroomBossPro: Toy, Small, Medium, Large and Giant. Because the booking page and the pet record use the same sizes, the size a customer picks on the booking page is the same size you see on the job card later.
Start From Your Smallest Common Dog
Most groomers find it easiest to set the service base price at what they charge for their most common small dog, then add for each size up. For example, with made-up numbers for a groomer's own services:
- Toy: +$0
- Small: +$0
- Medium: +$15
- Large: +$30
- Giant: +$55
With an $85 full groom base, that gives $85 for a Toy or Small dog, $100 for a Medium, $115 for a Large and $140 for a Giant. Those are examples, not advice on what you should charge; use what your own time and market support.
Some groomers prefer to set Toy slightly below Small, or to charge the same for Toy, Small and Medium on a bath & brush. The add-on can be zero for any size, so you are not forced into steps you do not use.
Size Add-Ons Apply Across Services
The size add-on is added to the service base for each pet. That means one set of size prices covers your full groom, your bath & brush and your other services. You do not need to build a separate price for every service and every size.
If a particular service needs very different size steps, such as a de-shedding service where Giant dogs take far longer, you can reflect that in the base price for that service, set a minimum, or quote those jobs with an estimate instead. The goal is a booking page that gets the common jobs right, not one that tries to price every possible dog.
Helping Customers Pick the Right Size
Customers are not always good judges of size. Owners of a 70-pound doodle will sometimes call it Medium. A few ways to cut down on wrong picks:
- Describe the sizes on your website. Next to your Book Now button, list rough weight ranges or example breeds for each size, in your own words.
- Check breed against size. Every request includes the breed. A Great Pyrenees marked Small is easy to spot in Leads.
- Use the note under the price. A line like “Price confirmed at the appointment based on size and coat” keeps expectations honest.
Because the booking is a request that you confirm, you have time to sort out a size mix-up on the phone before the van ever pulls up.
Size Is Saved on the Pet
Once you book the customer, size lives on each pet at that home, along with breed, coat, rabies due date and a notes line for the cut and behavior. The next visit fills in from the last one. If a puppy grows from Small to Large over its first year, you update the size once and future visits use the new size.
The groomer app shows each pet with its breed, size and coat on the appointment card, so whoever is in the van knows what is coming before they knock.
Size and Giant Breeds
Giant is its own size for a reason. Great Danes, Newfoundlands, Saint Bernards and the biggest doodles can take a big piece of your day, and the van setup itself is different. Some groomers set a large Giant add-on; others prefer to quote Giant dogs by estimate. Both approaches work. There is a whole article on it: Quoting Giant Breeds: Pricing Great Danes, Newfoundlands and Big Doodles.
Review Your Size Prices From Real Bookings
After a few weeks of requests, look at Leads. Are most bookings coming in as Medium? Are customers choosing Large for dogs you would call Giant? Are Giant bookings worth the day they take? Your Leads list shows every request with the pets and the quoted price, so you can adjust your size steps from real data in your own business rather than guesswork.
