Adding a Second Van to a Mobile Grooming Business

A second van is one of the biggest steps a mobile grooming business can take. It is a large purchase, a second groomer on the road every day, and a schedule that suddenly has two of everything: two routes, two days of appointments, two sets of texts and twice the invoices. The van itself is a decision for you and your accountant. Running two vans well is what this guide is about.

The Groomer Comes Before the Van

Bringing on another groomer was covered in Hiring a Second Groomer for Your Mobile Grooming Business. Many owners find it helps to have the second groomer working in a shared van for a while first, so the groomer knows your clients and your standards before they head out alone.

When both of you are consistently booked and the shared van cannot cover the demand, a second van starts to make sense. Look at your repeat book and your waiting new customers. If the work is already there, the second van fills quickly.

Split the Service Area

The cleanest way to run two vans is to give each one an area. One van covers the north side, the other the south. Each van spends less time driving and more time grooming, and customers get the same groomer most visits.

The office map in PetGroomBossPro helps you see where your clients are. Every home is placed on the map, and when you import clients with a CSV, their addresses are placed automatically. Look at the clusters, draw a rough line, and decide which van takes which side. You will adjust over time, but a clear starting split saves a lot of driving.

Move Repeat Clients Between Vans

Once you have decided the split, move each repeat client to their new van. In PetGroomBossPro, the Recurring Clients list lets you change the van, day, time or price for upcoming visits. Change the van once, and every future visit in that client's series moves with it. Each visit still waits on Pending Jobs with its planned day, time and van until the office confirms it.

Tell clients before their groomer changes. A short text explaining that a new van is now covering their area, with the new groomer's name, is usually all it takes. Their pet's notes are already on the home, so the new groomer arrives knowing the cut, the coat and the quirks.

Route Each Van From the Shop

With two vans, the daily plan needs a little more care. The Scheduled list in PetGroomBossPro shows appointments by day, and you can filter by van to see each route on its own. Auto-route orders each van's day Closest First or Furthest First from the shop, and you can set the route order by hand when a customer needs a particular time. Appointment times show on every card.

Saved views keep the filters you use most, such as “Van 1 tomorrow” and “Van 2 tomorrow,” so the daily check takes a minute. You can also print route sheets for each van if a groomer likes a paper backup.

Watch Both Vans From the Office

When you are in one van and the second van is across town, you need to know how the other route is going without calling. Van GPS shows on the office map. As each groomer taps Start and Complete in the groomer app, appointments move along, invoices are created, and cards on file can be charged. A skip arrives with the groomer's note, so you know straight away if something needs rescheduling.

Customers see their own groomer coming on the customer app's live map and get on-the-way and arrived texts, whichever van is coming.

Keep One Standard Across Both Vans

Two vans should feel like one business to customers. A few things help:

The Office Grows Too

Two vans means more leads, more texts, more confirmations and more invoices. Many owners find that the office work, not the grooming, is what grows fastest. A steady weekly routine keeps it under control, and that is covered in The Weekly Office Routine for a Mobile Grooming Business. Office user roles let a part-time helper handle texts and confirmations without access to everything.

Two vans also make monthly accounts more practical, because one van can spend a day at a senior living community or daycare while the other keeps the regular route going. That is next in Monthly Accounts for a Mobile Grooming Business: One Statement for Many Visits.
