The One-Van Owner's Grooming Schedule: Grooming, Routing and the Office From One Phone
A lot of mobile grooming businesses are one person and one van. The owner grooms every pet, drives every mile, answers every text and sends every invoice. For that owner, scheduling software has one job above all: take work off their plate, not add to it. Here is how the schedule looks when you are the whole company.
The Office Is Also the Groomer
Weather, skips and reschedules hit a solo groomer hardest, as the previous article, Weather Days: Moving a Mobile Grooming Route When the Forecast Turns, shows. There is nobody else to text customers while you drive home.
That is why the parts of PetGroomBossPro that run on their own matter most for a one-van owner: the reminders, the on-the-way and arrived texts, the invoice and card charge at completion. Every message you do not have to send by hand is time back.
The Nightly Routine, Solo
Most solo groomers build tomorrow in the evening. With PetGroomBossPro, the routine looks like this:
- Open Pending Jobs, tomorrow tab. Your repeat clients are already there with their planned times. Confirm; one click keeps each visit's planned day, time and van.
- Check No Day. Any new requests from the Book Now page or your website? If one is near tomorrow's stops and you have room, text the customer and place it.
- Route the day. Auto-route Closest First or Furthest First from home, then move the fixed-time stops into place.
- Read down the list. Check the pets and times. Is there a long groom wedged between two fixed times?
Then you are done. Customers who want it get a night-before reminder on their own. The whole routine is described in Pending Jobs: Confirming Tomorrow's Grooming Visits the Day Before.
The Day Itself
On grooming day, the phone is your schedule, your map and your office. Sign in with your company login and PIN, and the day's appointments are in order with their set times. Tap navigation for directions to the next stop. The on-the-way and arrived texts go out on their own, so the owner knows to have the dog ready.
At each stop the card shows every pet with breed, size, coat and cut notes, the add-ons, the van notes and your own notes from last time. You work through the grooming checklist for each pet, take before/after photos, and tap Complete. The invoice is created and the card on file can be charged before you pull away.
Answering Texts Between Grooms
A solo groomer cannot answer every text the moment it arrives. Two-way texting from the office side of PetGroomBossPro keeps all customer conversations in one place, so between grooms you can catch up on replies, reschedule requests and new inquiries in one list instead of scrolling through your personal messages.
Fewer texts arrive in the first place when customers can see the van on the live map in the customer app. “Where are you?” mostly answers itself.
Keeping the Book Tight
For one van, every mile of driving comes out of your own day. The scheduling habits that matter most:
- Repeat clients in fixed slots. Add Recurring Grooming holds each client's weekday and time, so your weeks have a steady shape.
- Area days. Book clients on the day you are already in their neighborhood. See Neighborhood Days: Grouping Mobile Grooming Appointments by Area.
- Nail trims near existing stops. Small visits only pay when the drive is short.
- A realistic number of long grooms per day. You are the only groomer, so pace matters.
Which Plan Fits a One-Van Owner
Plans are Start at $59/month, Pro at $89/month and Crew at $199/month, and scheduling, routing and customer alerts are on every plan. Plans include a monthly text allowance of 500, 1,000 or 2,000 texts sent and received on Start, Pro or Crew, in the US and Canada. A solo groomer can begin on Start and move up if they need more texts or add people. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial and no credit card.
Whatever plan you pick, the schedule works the same way. The tools in this section — set times on every card, the Scheduled list, auto-routing, Pending Jobs, No Day requests, reminders, the live map — are all there from the first day of the trial, so you can test a real week of your own book before deciding.
Room to Grow
The schedule you build for one van is the same schedule a second van would use. When you add a bather, they get their own PIN and share your van's day. When you add a second van, it gets its own day on the same schedule. Nothing has to be rebuilt. That move is covered next in Adding a Second Grooming Van: What Changes on the Schedule. For every scheduling tool in one place, see the mobile grooming scheduling software page.
